Cookie Policy

Last updated October 15, 2026

What this site stores in your browser, and why.

Essential storage

We store a single preference recording your response to the cookie notice, so it is not shown repeatedly. This is stored in your browser and is not transmitted to us. We also store your saved place and event plan locally in the same way; it persists on this device until you clear it from the plan page or clear your browser's site data, and it is never sent to our servers except as place and event identifiers inside a share link you choose to generate.

Analytics

Where aggregate analytics are used, they may set a cookie or an equivalent identifier for the purpose of counting visits and understanding which guides, like Plan your weekend or the journal, are actually useful. This is not used for advertising, retargeting, or cross-site profiling, and it does not identify you personally; see our privacy policy for more on how that data is handled.

No advertising cookies

This site does not run third-party advertising networks and does not set cookies for behavioural ad targeting. Our advertising disclosure explains the Peters family's commercial relationships that appear in our content; those relationships do not involve tracking technology on this site.

Forms

When you submit the private editorial forms — for example on suggest a place, submit an event, collaborate, or newsletter registration — the data you type is sent directly to our backend for review when you click submit. It is not stored via a cookie beforehand, and nothing is submitted until you press the button.

Managing cookies

You can clear or block site storage in your browser settings at any time. Doing so may cause the cookie notice to reappear and will remove your saved plan from this device. Embedded Google Maps, when available on a page with a confirmed public address, load Google resources subject to Google's own cookie and privacy practices rather than ours. For the legal context around all of this, see our terms of use.

What this means for you, in plain language

In practice, this is a short list. One small preference remembers that you have seen the cookie notice. Your saved plan lives in the same browser storage so a list of places and events you have bookmarked is still there next time you visit, on that device, in that browser. If you switch to a different phone or clear your browsing data, that list is gone unless you generated a share link first. There is no account, no password, and no server-side record of what you have saved — the convenience and the limitation are the same fact.

Example: a typical visit

Say you browse the directory, add two restaurants and a park to your plan, and come back the next morning on the same laptop. Your plan is exactly as you left it, because it was written to this browser's local storage rather than to our servers. If you then open the site on your phone, your plan starts empty there, because nothing synced; you would need to open a share link from the plan page to carry it over. No cookie we set tracks you across other websites, and none is used to build an advertising profile.

Raising a concern

If you think a cookie or local storage item is behaving differently from how this page describes it, or you want more detail before deciding whether to allow it, use the private form on the contact page. We read every message and will correct this page if anything here is inaccurate. For the broader question of what personal data we hold and why, see our privacy policy, and for the commercial relationships disclosed across the site, see our advertising disclosure.
